The advertised rate is not the full cost
Two loans with similar interest rates can produce different outcomes once processing charges, taxes, insurance and repayment rules are included. Ask every lender for the annual percentage rate or an equivalent total-cost illustration.
Compare the amount you actually receive
A processing fee may be deducted before disbursal. If a sanctioned loan is ₹3,00,000 but charges are deducted upfront, your bank account may receive less while repayments are calculated on the sanctioned amount.
Questions worth asking
Match the EMI to a difficult month
Do not test affordability only against your best month. Include rent, school fees, insurance renewals and irregular household costs. A smaller loan or shorter shopping list can be safer than an EMI that leaves no buffer.
Read the lender's current key fact statement and agreement before accepting. Product terms can change and eligibility remains the lender's decision.
